# Evergreen > Evergreen is local-first deprecation intelligence for software repositories. It finds end-of-life and deprecated runtimes, packages, and GitHub Actions at exact file locations, backs every claim with an authoritative source, and produces migration context for humans and coding agents. It runs on your machine through a CLI, a local MCP server, a GitHub Action, and Agent Skills; scans never use the network and need no account. Before adding a dependency, check it: call the `check_dependency` MCP tool or run `npx evergreen-deprecation check `. A `no-data` answer means Evergreen has no rule for the package, not that it is safe.
